The Video Platform Grants Viewers Authority to Limit AI-Generated Videos in Timelines

Users will soon have a new feature that allows them to reduce the amount of artificial intelligence-produced media appearing in their feeds. This initiative comes as the service disclosed that it now features over 1 billion AI-generated clips.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is undergoing trials over the following weeks before a global rollout. This shift comes amid a surge in AI-generated material, fueled by new video-generation tools.

AI Proliferation Online

Recent reports that almost a tenth of the most rapidly expanding content creators on a popular video site exclusively feature content made by AI. Our research shows that numerous viewers like content made with AI tools, from digital art to informative clips, and we aim to offer the community the power to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own likes,” said a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

TikTok disclosed that there are presently 1.3bn videos on its app identified as AI-generated. In total, in excess of 100 million videos are submitted to the service each day, making clips made by AI a minor percentage of its total content library.

Members will be capable of decrease or raise the amount of AI-generated videos they watch by using the “manage topic” setting in the application and selecting the AI content topic. Other topics that can already be controlled under the tool cover news, clothing, beauty, and choreography.

Content Labeling and Policies

The platform’s rules mandate creators to label “realistic” artificially created content, and it bans malicious fake videos of well-known individuals or critical incidents. Any believable AI video that is without a tag can be removed under its community policies.

Furthermore, the service will now add an AI-generated tag to content created with its own AI tools, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing AI-generated material. This step is intended to help prevent users from attempting to bypass the tagging system.

It is planning to cut hundreds of positions in its trust and safety department in London, with trade unions and internet security professionals voicing alarm that people are being substituted by machine-led review.

A company official clarified that staff-based oversight would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can shield workers by removing the most harmful content ahead of it has to be seen by staff. The company reported a notable drop in shocking and graphic content reviewed by human moderators over the last 12 months due to the use of its automated systems.

“We think that it’s essential to balance people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” the executive stated. “We’ll have humans as part of that process, but we also think it’s very important to reduce exposure to unsafe media as rapidly, which is the area in which a significant AI assistance is making a difference operate efficiently.”
